Season 4 - So It Begins

Our very first taste of Palex. Alex is talking with Ellie as Paige walks by them heading into Degrassi. Barbs are traded, and a series of events is set into motion that inevitably leads to the couple we know and love today.

Marco is running for class president. Only one thing in his way -- Alex. She threatens to out him in her own campaign for president, butting heads with Paige in the process. This episode showcases Alex as her complete badass self during the infancy of Deanna's run on Degrassi. And it's an interesting look at what could be interpreted as Alex's internal homophobia. Paige and Alex at this point can barely tolerate each other. But the chemistry between the girls is apparent even here. And the bright side, it can only get better from here on out.

After Paige crashes Spinner's car, she has to get a job to pay him back for the repairs. That leads her to the movie theatre, after an unsuccessful attempt at waitressing. And who should her broody new co-worker be but none other than Alex Nunez. Paige attempts to suck up her apparent dislike of Alex and try and play nice. And it seems to be working for a while. The girls bond over greasy bags of popcorn and 'tasting the rainbow' with the skittles bags Alex offers up to Paige. But of course Spinner comes and ruins it all, getting Paige fired. Alex, showing the first real softening towards Paige, talks to their manager and gets Paige her job back. And so begins the tentative start to the Palex friendship. Definitely the most pivotal Palex episode of Season 4.

Very little Paige/Alex interaction since Paige is all hung up on her new yoga instructor/student teacher. But it's important simply for the fact that by this episode, it's very clear to the audience that Paige and Alex have become genuine friends. Their conversation at work, with Alex encouraging Paige to pursue something with Matt the creepy teacher, is evidence enough that they're truly confortable with one another.
